Maple Hope Foundation and the “Unite with Ukraine” initiative of the Ukrainian World Congress deliver 30 MOVES® SLC™ mobile life support systems to Ukraine’s defense forces

On September 11, 2025, a new shipment of 30 MOVES® SLC™ life support systems arrived in Kyiv through the combined efforts of the Maple Hope Foundation and the “Unite with Ukraine” initiative of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC). These advanced systems are specifically designed to provide emergency medical care to severely wounded soldiers directly on the battlefield.

As part of the deployment of the medical technology donation to Ukraine, Thornhill Medical provided combat care training to military medical teams who will be using MOVES® SLC™ to treat and transport injured civilian and military Ukrainians. The MOVES® SLC™ system is the only micro integrated portable life support technology of its kind in the world. Each unit combines an oxygen concentrator, a unique oxygen-conserving ventilator, suction, and a complete vital sign monitoring system in a single rugged, battery powered device. Designed for combat conditions, the systems eliminate the need for heavy and hazardous oxygen tanks.

The Government of Canada supported the initiative of the Maple Hope Foundation and the Ukrainian World Congress by providing the life-support systems, which have already been deployed to the front lines. Among the recipients are the 1st Corps of the Ukrainian National Guard “Azov,” the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Khartia,” the Da Vinci’s Wolves Battalion of the 108th Separate Mechanized Brigade, the 1st Separate Medical Battalion of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the “Liut” assault brigade of the National Police of Ukraine, the Special Group “Alpha” of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), and the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces.

This assistance package, valued at USD 4.3 million (UAH 177 million), includes specialized training for Ukrainian doctors and paramedics. Experts from Thornhill Medical, in cooperation with the Maple Hope Foundation and UWC, will ensure that medical personnel are fully prepared to use the equipment effectively before deployment in the field.

Since 2014, the Maple Hope Foundation has been steadfast in its support for Ukraine, particularly for combat medics since the onset of the full scale invasion. The foundation previously delivered 30 MOVES® SLC™ systems in 2023 and an additional 75 in 2024. The demand for this state of the art equipment continues to increase.

Dr. Irina Chorny, MD CCFP, Medical Advisor, Maple Hope Foundation

“As Medical Advisor for Maple Hope Foundation, I am honoured that we have been able to deliver 30 MOVES® SLC systems to Ukraine. Each unit serves as a fully portable intensive care station—integrating ventilator support, oxygen generation, suction, and patient monitoring into one compact device. This technology will greatly strengthen the ability of Ukrainian medical teams to deliver advanced critical care in frontline and emergency settings, even when traditional infrastructure is unavailable. We are deeply grateful to the Government of Canada and our partners for making this life-saving support possible.”

Lesley Gouldie, President and CEO, Thornhill Medical

“Canada’s commitment to Ukraine is measured by the ground support provided. With this fifth deployment, we continue to support and enable front-line combat casualty care capacity. Just as importantly, our team is training Ukrainian medical teams to ensure the technology translates into lives saved today and a more resilient medical system for tomorrow. We appreciate the Government of Canada, the Maple Hope Foundation and the Ukrainian World Congress for their partnership as Ukraine defends, prevails and rebuilds.”

Paul Grod, President, Ukrainian World Congress

Through the Unite with Ukraine initiative, we are committed to ensuring that those who risk their lives to protect Ukraine are equipped with the most advanced technologies available. Together, we are not only saving lives today, but also building a resilient foundation for Ukraine’s victory and recovery.”
