Today marks the one-year anniversary of a war that started nine years ago and has lasted more than four centuries.
Ukraine is still standing today for one reason – the unparalleled sacrifice made by the Ukrainian people. Their heroism, bravery, and selflessness are what has kept this country on the map of the world as an independent state.
Since the beginning of their miserable existence, Russia’s primary goal has been the extermination of the Ukrainian people. One year ago today, the next phase of this centuries old effort was unsuccessfully put into motion.
Ukrainians will never give up and stop fighting for what is rightfully theirs. To conquer this land is to conquer every one of the 38 million that currently exist here, and the 20 million that make up the diaspora. Absolute Ukrainian victory is inevitable, but it will come at a great cost and will require further sacrifice.
Despite overwhelming odds and an ugly yet powerful enemy, Ukrainians have again refused to be conquered. They have inspired the world, and shown what it means to be genuinely heroic, brave, and selfless.
As we reflect on the anniversary of this particular phase of Russia’s war on Ukraine, we must remember that the war is far from over. As Ukrainians continue to fight and survive, we in the diaspora must also continue to sacrifice to bring our inevitable victory one step closer.
Sacrifice. Make a difference. Help bring victory closer.
